Stonefield Estate is something special! Visited: December 2006
Posted by colm_galligan
We were looking for something a 'little bit special', and Stonefield delivered. Stonefield only has 15 private villas, and is family run. The location, near the base of Petit Piton, is idyllic, set in a rainforest with plenty of personal space in the villas, which are all impeccably well looked after.

What sets this place apart, though,is the staff. It's one of the only 'special' places I have been where I have felt the staff genuinely care: no false smiles or greetings. They went the extra mile for us.

There are a number of resorts in and around the town of Soufriere, situated around the spectacular Piton mountains. We visited some of the better known places, and found them to be lacking.

Anse Chastenet and Jalousie are big and lacking in atmosphere. This is reflected in their staff, who appears unmotivated; and this was reflected in the poor service we received over lunch.Ladera is situated up in the hills, but is lacking in atmosphere and very 'snooty'.

For those wanting privacy and a romantic getaway, Stonefield has it all. They have villas with private pools, large decks with hammocks, and a great bar and restaurant.

In addition, you can enjoy views of the Piton Peaks and the azure Caribbean Sea.

It was simply breathtaking! Visited: September 2006

I spent eight wonderful days at Stonefield, and loved everything about it. The villa we stayed in had its own splash pool and double hammock on the porch where we watched the sun set every night. It was very private and romantic.

Also, we loved the four poster bed and outdoor shower. The view of the Pitons was fabulous. Some of the most beautiful scenery ever can be seen right from your own porch.

You can do as little or as much as you like here. The food at the Mango Tree was very good, and the menu changed every day.

I would definitely go back to Stonefield.

This was an exquisite stay in St. Lucia. Visited: July 2006
Posted by sue_marlay
My adult son and I spent a week in St. Lucia, three days of which was at Stonefiedld Estate. I had originally reserved a two-bedroom villa without a pool. It was extremely close to the restaurant, so I asked for an alternative.

Given the limited availability, we moved to the Plantation House. It was much too big for just two people, but exquisite nonetheless. We especially enjoyed the luxury of our own pool, and the view from there was fabulous.

Stonefield is in a beautiful setting with great service and an excellent restaurant. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

This was an astonishing paradise. Visited: July 2006
Posted by jimmlow
Many resorts claim to be a paradise, but Stonefield literally is. The views of the mountain and the sea from the guestrooms are amazing.

We had our own private pool, large enough to actually swim in. We spent almost all our time in St. lucia on our terrace and in our pool - sometimes with swimsuits on, sometimes not.

There aren't many activities available at Stonefield, so don't go there looking for that. We did find the petroglyphs on the property, and we picked avocadoes, oranges, limes and mangoes from trees near our room. Stonefield personnel will arrange tours to nearby sites that are great half-day excursions. We were always in a hurry to get back to our private pool.

We ate breakfast and dinner each day at the Mango Tree, the property restaurant. The food was excellent and different every day. The service at the restaurant was slow, so don't go there if you need to eat in a hurry.

The staff was very friendly, efficient and never intrusive. The Browns, who run the resort, are genuinely friendly people and seem to be always available should you need them.

Stonefield is not really a destination for kids, but if you're looking for a romantic place for two, this is truly a paradise.

We had a beautiful honeymoon. Visited: June 2006
Posted by skideeep
My now wife and I honeymooned here this June, and it was the perfect place to decompress.

This place was amazing. The views were spectacular, and the villas were really cool! Hammocks, plunge pools, garden showers- there were so many unique little touches.

Also, the food at their restaraunt was the best in the area (compared to Jalouise and Ladera). They incorporated local seafood in an ever-changing menu that far exceeded my Caribbean dining expectations! Go for Coco Mango cocktail- seriously.

Obviously, I cannot say enough about this place. The staff went above and beyond each day. This was the place to relax in St. Lucia.

In addition, they have contracted with local guides for the excursions, not toursist trap companies found on other places on the island. The Soufriere (south) end of the island has the heart and soul of St. Lucia. The mega resorts are up in Castries on the northern part of the island- (might as well go to Cancun).

We absolutely loved Stonefield, and look forward to returning. It was top notch!

It was all around amazing. Visited: June 2006

When we searched for a great location for our honeymoon, we wanted to head for St. Lucia, but not for one of those all-inclusive places where you feel weird for stepping off property to do something that may be already included in what you paid for.

If you're looking for a place that is a true Caribbean getaway, this is the place. there were no phones, no TVs, no robes with slippers, and no room service. It was just an amazing view with a small laid-back community atmosphere.

The rooms were spelndidly decorated, and if you get one with a pool, that's a bonus. Nothing beats a hot day by going into your own plunge pool.

Some villas even had kitchen facilities where you could take advantage of the open markets in Soufriere for some good local cooking yourself.

The outdoor shower may seem intimidating at first, but after you take a nice wash under a view of Petit Piton, something just seems better about it.

There were a number of tours and taxi/car rental service options listed for you, so if you would want to do things yourself or let them do the planning for you, it's all there.

The food at Mango Tree was great - as was the bar and service. The food changed daily from international to local fare, and I could tell they put a lot of work into it. The results were very pleasing.

The hotel's location was the closest one to Soufriere by car and walking. Keep in mind you're on the more remote part of the island, rather than the bustling, commercial side. Things close early around town and the nightlife isn't as active as Castries.

St. Lucia may be a small island, but getting around is not as easy as it may seem. The roads on the south part of the island near this hotel and others are winding and go up and down mountain passes.

If you truly want a romantic getaway with a great remote location, this is definitely the place.

This is a "retreat extraordinaire". Visited: March 2006

Don't pack a tie, and don't bring high heels. This is where our family of three goes to unplug after a long North American winter.

Pawley's Island hammocks are a great place from which to observe nature: the volcanic peaks, the lush jungle, friendly little lizards, beautiful birds.

Go swimming on the deck or down at the beach. Take good books; plan not to shop much beyond postcards. If you need conversation, you will find people by the pool, by the restaurant, or down at Jalousie - but if you don't you will be nearly in heaven.

The distance to St. Lucia is somewhat longer than to other favorite getaways; one way to rationalize the trek is that not everyone makes it.

It is so wonderful, you'll never want to leave! Visited: February 2006
Posted by erwhaleyjr
I just returned from a wonderful seven-day stay at the Stonefield We stayed in one of the new cabins, the Bamboo, perched just below the Frangiani.

In a nutshell, the place was just wonderful. We have traveled to many places in the world, stayed at many five-star resorts and on luxury cruise ships, and we haven't enjoyed ourselves any more than the week we spent at this friendly, family run property.

We had actually planned to tour the island more (it was our first visit to St. Lucia), but didn't want to leave our villa except for the half day volcano/waterfall/mineral baths/botanical gardens tour- which is highly recommended.

We did take the shuttle to the beach at the Jolousie resort for three half days (go have lunch at the nearby Bang Cafe - very Brit kischy). We also took the shuttle to Soufriere a couple of times for groceries, but other than that we were perfectly content to swing in the hammock on the porch of our villa and enjoying our view of the Pitons and the Caribbean Sea or taking a refreshing dip in our private pool.

The rooms were spacious, with a walk-in closet, double sink and a great outdoor shower!

The Mango Tree restaurant had great food at a good value, with a different menu theme each day of the week. We had planned to go off the property a couple of nights for dinner, but enjoyed ourselves so much there, we decided just to dine at the Mango Tree each night and were never disappointed.

The menu prices were a good value relative to the quality of the food. We never spent more than $80 for dinner for two people, including a bottle of wine. The managers, Mr. Brown and his wife, who ran the restaurant, were very pleasant people who were genuinely concerned about the comfort of their guests.

All in all, our stay at the Stonefield was the most relaxing time we've experienced. We hope to return to again in the not-to-distant future. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a respite from the day to day grind of modern life.

Stonefield Estate exceeded our expectations. Visited: February 2006
Posted by n_sandford
My wife and I have just returned from a second visit to the Stonefield Villa Estate. We had wondered before the holiday whether we might (as can sometimes be the case) be disappointed on a return visit.

Far from it! The recent additions and improvements to the facilities (particularly the private pools for most of the villas) have turned luxury accommodation into super-luxury - and at no extra cost!

It was a wonderful place just to relax and unwind, too nice in fact to leave for shopping trips and souvenir hunting. What made it so appealing was the personal interest and friendliness of every member of staff - the general manager, Aly, the receptionists, gardeners, drivers, restaurant staff, room maids, and even night security staff.

We shall certainly be back for a third visit before too long. Just a word of warning - this is not a place for clubbers, disco dancers, or party-goers. It's a quiet idyllic retreat and a taste of paradise.

Paradise can be found at Stonefield Estate. Visited: January 2006
Posted by donachie99
When traveling to St. Lucia, a tropical garden spot, stay at the Stonefield Estate Villas, nestled along side a verdant green hill looking at the Petit Piton ("Small Peak"- which isn't that small!).

There, you will encounter wonderful staff, friendly faces, and privacy. You will enjoy your own quiet villa with deck, hammock, and a swimming pool overlooking the blue Caribbean.

Here you can get away from the standard hotel experience and relax under inky black skies filled with diamond bright stars with a silhouette of a tropical peak in the background.

There are only 17 villas, so there is no crowd. Also, it is hidden away from tourist traps. Short walks or drives will take you to places like the scenic fishing village of Sufriere, volcanic suphur springs, a real rainforest, horse riding, boat trips into the Caribbean, or a hike up either of the Pitons which tower over the scenery.

Four of us just visited in January and got away in "paradise". Do yourself a favor and discover St. Lucia - and Stonefield Estate.

Stonefield is a quiet paradise. Visited: August 2005
Posted by carl1
My girlfriend and I stayed at Stonefield for a week of quiet paradise. Our private villa complete with hammock (for reading and Piton gazing), and plunge pool (for cooling off whenever) were just what we needed.

The fence and foliage made our retreat the perfect place to "get back to nature". We spent our time split between relaxing on the beach or touring the island sights with a guide from the resort.

Service was above and beyond what we expected. All requests were seen to in a first-class manner. I would recommend Stonefield to any couple looking to get away from the all-inclusive style resort.

Stonefield was paradise for us. Visited: July 2005
Posted by dhastilow
We stayed in Stonefield for three days as an escape from work, and a chance to celebrate my birthday. Upon arrival, the friendly staff informed us that we had been upgraded to the Limemill villa.
This villa was truly amazing and encompassed everything Caribbean living should be.

The plantation shutters around the whole property provided cooling breezes throughout the house. Also, the locally made furniture was not only great to look at but extremely comfortable.

The private pool terrace was amazing, and the water temperature was just right. Many an hour was spent floating around in the pool or relaxing in the double hammock while enjoying amazing views of Petit Piton.

Initially, we were concerned about the insect problem. But during our stay we found this not to be an issue. Our other initial concern was the lack of AC. After our first night, I realized why there was no AC in these properties. Not only would the AC have taken away part of the attraction of the resort, but the property design and ceiling fan made the bedroom cooler than our own AC-cooled room at home.

We ate every day at the Mango Tree restaurant and found the food to be excellent, and the staff was amazing.

All in all, this was without a doubt one of the finest hotels I have stayed in, and the ultimate place to rest and relax.

They had a super friendly staff, an amazingly well designed property, and provided unforgettable memories for us. We enjoyed our stay so much that we have since revisited for a one-night break!

This was one of the nicest places I have ever visited.

The rooms were intimate, secluded, and immaculate. Also, the resort was close to many activities on the island, such as the Pitons, scuba diving, and the rainforest.

I suggest this resort to the traveler who is interested really seeing St. Lucia.

We spent our honeymoon in beautiful nature! Visited: July 2005

We stayed at Stonefield Estates for our honeymoon. The best part was being surrounded by this glorious natural setting!

The grounds were very well cared for, and the views of the pitons were spectacular. Mango Tree Restaurant was wonderful, and its wait staff was superb!

The resort was located in the best part of the whole island..the south of the island. They had all the sights you will want to see. You won't need to go to anywhere else!

The Stonefield Estate Villa Resort was absolutely beautiful. The villas all had fantastic views of the Caribbean Sea and the World Heritage Pitons (which we could enjoy from the hammock on our verandah).

The restauraunt had lovely local food - you must try the fishcakes, flying fish and banana jam! The resort also had excellent customer service, and all staff went out of their way to help us have a paradisical holiday.

The resort was perfectly situated amongst all the sightseeing venues, the volcano, waterfall, beach, etc., and offered day tours for guests. We had a truly fantastic time at the Stonefield, and highly recommend it.

We stayed in the Orchid for five nights from May 3rd through 8th. We had awesome views and vistas, and were very comfortable. Meals were outstanding (if you love bananas, you need to have the Banana Jelly). Also, the staff was very helfpul and friendly.

Without a doubt I would come back here and probably will in the near future. Hopefully, they will add a few more shuttles and expand the resort closer to the beach in the future.

One thing I would mention. If anyone reccomends "Bang" to you - skip it. It was a ripoff, and the only thing I would have done differently on the whole trip.

We loved the accommodations and staff at Stonefield Estate Villa Resort. Every member of their staff made us feel right at home and helped with any inquiries we had.

We particularly loved the staff of their restaurant, The Mango Tree. They were friendly, friendly and more friendly. Side trips to different sights on the island were easily arranged. We stayed in Casaurina Villa, which had awesome views of the Pitons, as well as ocean views.

The villas were set in old plantation grounds with the most exquisite tropical landscape one could imagine. Also, we rented a car and toured the island, and this part of the island was the most beautiful by far.

It was quiet, relaxing and beautiful beyond words. We will return to Stonefield and encourage anyone who wants a relaxing, beautiful place to stay, to make your reservations here.

We can't say enough good things about our stay here. If you decide to go to St. Lucia, make the Stonefield Estate Villa Resorts the place you choose to stay.
