We had a refreshing tropical adventure at Crystals. Visited: April 2008
Posted by memorylane
This was not our first time at Crystals, but our first to write in a review. We thought we should share our memories with others who are looking for: adventure, relaxiation, a unique experience, and St. Lucian hospitality.

No, we are not family members - but we feel we are, and for sure we have been to Crystals enough times that perhaps looking into building our own holiday home here.

St. Lucia is a marvelous island, and Soufriere is (in my view) the only part to be in. It is unspoiled. To some, this is off putting perhaps - but for us, it is perfect.

There is no factory here, no large supermarkets, motor ways, or signs. However, there is great fresh air, and there are great people(when you get to know them). Life is slow, and we love it.

Crystals captures part of this life, and yet the cottages are very comfortable and unique. The staff, from the security to Monica and Martin, are all friendly.

This is the only place I would stay. There are things to do, too. We loved the day sail, the piton hike, and the rain forest.

As for resturants - we cooked in most of the time, but liked the Mango Tree at Stonefield. Enjoy

We will return! Visited: March 2008

We got married at Crystals. The place was charming - the kind you can't get at the Marriott if you follow me (been to one, been to them all).

Monica and Martin and the girls couldn't have been nicer, more helpful or more fun.

If you go, rent a car. The roads are rugged, but you must drive the island. And, if Monica recommends somewhere or makes a face when you mention it, listen to her.

Some places on the island rated highly, and just didn't deserve it. If you can, stay in the villa - it's the most perfect setting I have yet to see.

This was our honeymoon dream. Visited: March 2008

Our stay was just wonderful. We had spent nights over the Internet looking for that special hotel, and quite by accident came across Where to Stay. This is a great site, I must say it helped us find Crystals.

First, I have to say the Crystals site was nothing like the property. I agree with other reviews sent in. This property's only problem is the site they have. In fact, I asked Monica why she does not get a better one. She said she agreed, but for now they do not have a problem with booking, as most is word of mouth anyway.

This property is not for everyone. If you like nature and camping, you will love Crystals. If you are the type who is picky, you will not.

Do not think this property is primitive - far from it. The cottages and villas are superb. It's just that you are in the rain forest.
For us, it was wonderful. We split our stay between two cottages - both were great.

I enjoyed the use of the jeep, and this I agree is a must. First of all, you save on the taxi rates, which cost a small fortune. Second, you are free to tour the island. We went up to the Cap Rodney Bay area and down the the south Labourie. I came to the conclusion the Soufriere area is far the better. It is lush, and less populated - and of course, there's Crystals.

We love to walk, so we did the rain forest, the Gros Piton, and the waterfalls. It was a great stay. Cheers to all at Crystals, and a special thanks to Arlette and Monica.

We had another wonderful stay. Visited: February 2008

This was our second time at Crystals, and it was wonderful.

It was a very special property, and the staff was very friendly. Thank you girls for looking after us!

The food was amazing. We had dinner cooked for us twice in our villa. Arlete did a great curry.

The views from Crystals were great. The photos on the ern site in no way showed how nice this property was.

We loved to do all the nature stuff. We climbed th pitons; did the rainforest and waterfalls (lots); and spent quite some time on the beach in the south. I thought the beaches in Vieux Fort were better than Soufriere. It was well worth the drive over - and on the way, stop at Debbies for lunch - it is a must.

We did the fish fry, but didn't think it was so hot. There were lots of tourists. We loved the early morning market, though.

We had a great stay. We will be here again - hopefully next year.

We had the best time ever! Visited: August 2007
Posted by perfecto9
We were here seven nights eight days, and should have stayed longer. Our honeymoon was just perfect.

Crystals was just what we wanted. It was a small property, but still provided great service and very, very friendly staff and the owners.

We like to dive, and the dive shop at Anse Chastenet was great. We did a five dive package, and it was great fun.

Do the rain forest with Rass. It was one of our best days. We also enjoyed the fish fry on Friday in a nearby town.

We just love St. Lucia, and hope to go back in a couple of years. We loved Crystals, too!

We spent our honeymoon at Crystals, and it was just amazing.

For us, it was just what we wanted. It was off the beaten track, yet we were quite at home in our cottage.

We stayed in the mango. The units were well equipped and large.
We didn't have a swimming pool, but had the dip pool. It was small, but was a great way to cool off.

What we did have was an amazing view of the pitons and wonderful sunsets for us to remember for years to come.

The property was small, but the service was better than any large resort I have stayed in. The staff and hosts were great.

We enjoyed the Anse Chastanet for food, the Debbie Restaurant, Gee's, and the Rainforest Restaurant.

We also loved the botanical gardens, the bike trip of St. Lucia, scuba at Action Adventure, and the zip line in the rainforest.

It was a great property on a great island.

It was a dream came true - I loved Crystals! Visited: May 2007
Posted by kum007
The photos on WhereToStay.com were no reflection of the true beauty of this property. It was simply stunning.

We stayed in the Coco Palm Cottage. We wanted a cottage with a pool, but all were booked up. We still wanted to stay here, so we booked Coco Palm.

It was a wonderful cottage with great views. It was very comfortable - and best of all, it was air conditioned (a must for my husband!).

We were on our 20th wedding anniversary and had saved for years to have this special vacation. We were so happy when our dream came true.

We loved the Anse Chastanet Beach. Also, the food was great (as well the food at the Mango Tree. Gees Bon Mange was excellent, and for a real local fare (and a cheap lunch), try Martha's Tables up by Jalousie Hotel.

We loved the half day sailing set up by Monica. It was only $35 for a half day - what a steal!

We also loved the rainforest tour. It was another dream for us.

St. Lucia was a very special island. We hope to return to celebrate our 25th anniversary. Thank you to all at Crystals, and a special thanks to Monica Martin for a great stay!

It was marvelous and well worth the wait! Visited: February 2007
Posted by angelofluv
We tried to stay at Crystals for the Christmas period, but we had no luck. Instead, we booked in February, and I must say I am happy we waited rather than stay at another property.

Everything was superb - from the location and the rooms, to the service and hospitality of our hosts.

We took advantage of a body massage on our private deck. Wow, it is a must. The sunset cruise round the pitons was magical, and so was the helicopter ride.

We had great fun, and will return again to this great island and property.

I could not have picked a better property. Visited: January 2007
Posted by martinch68
It was our 25th wedding anniversary, and it was down to Jamaica or St Lucia. We chose Crystals due to the great customer service from Monica, the owner, and thought well this property must be good and we have never looked back.

St. Lucia is a wonderful island. With its hills and lush tropical plants, I felt as if I was in Paradise. Also, the people in St. Lucia are so friendly, we just never wanted to leave.

Crystals was ideal for us. We do not like large hotels, and we like to do our own thing and not be pinned down to hours for meals. So, having a kitchen was a plus, as we love to cook. The stone BBQ attached to each cottage was a nice touch, and we did a couple of BBQ nights.

The property itself was rather splendid. It was not like any hotel we have stayed in before. It was more like a cluster of beautiful homes - each one different.

We stayed in the Sugar Cane. Our bedroom was large and all white - from white marble floors to white walls and curtains. The dramatic heavy dark wood furniture made the bedroom quite royal.

Our kitchen was very well equipped. It even had polished Italian granite counter tops. We never thought we would get this in St. Lucia, let alone in a small country property. The had great decor.

The other nights we had dinner at The Mango Tree at Stonefield. It was a very nice location with good food, and the Ladera was very nice with stunning views. Go to the cocktail hour to see the views. Also, go to the Tree House restaurant at Anse Chastanet. It does cut into your pocket a bit, but it is still worth it.

The fish fry at Anse La Raye was worth the drive. However, it was rained off the night we went, so we did not get the true feel.

The rainforest is a must. We love to walk, and even for us old folk it was not so hard.

We will visit this island again for sure, and if Crystals has room, we would love to return.

Crystals provided honeymoon bliss. Visited: January 2007
Posted by angelofluv
Four days at Crystals was all we could manage to get away for - but it was worth the long flight.

If you want to be nurtured well, go to an all-inclusive. However, if you like the freedom to hop in your jeep and explore the island, Crystals is a perfect property to do so. Monica and Martin were well informed and were great at helping us plan a day we would never have thought of. We did it all.

Our cottage, the Sugar Cane, was as I had dreamed. It was full of bright fabrics and dark woods in the lounge area, and all white and romantic in the bedroom. There were lots of perfumed candles and flowers that adorned our room on arrival . In addition, from our bed, we had a perfect view of the pitons.

I will treasure our honeymoon stay in St. Lucia forever.

It was unique. Visited: October 2006

It was a bit difficult to find out about Crystals. We were lucky to stumble onto this web site, or we would have perhaps never found it.

First, the photos did not do the property justice at all. With only five cottages, Crystals was very special. Each one was very different, and yet all were very secluded and private. We could not have picked a better property.

St. Lucia was indeed perfect. I must say we did it all - rainforest, waterfalls, and we even climbed the Petite Piton. Although, I am ashamed to say I found it rather hard, and only made it half way up. Next time, I will do the Gross Piton, as it was not so hard (more of a long hike).

All in all, we had a great stay. We will for sure return.

We stayed here for seven nights, and from start to finish, it was an amazing experience.

Crystals was everything we had hoped for and more, as the photos we found on line did not do the property justice at all.

Our cottage was divine and very stylish in bright Caribbean colors. It was filled with lots of local art work and the most superb furniture. But best of all, the view simply magical.

We spent our time visiting all the sites we could pack in a week - the falls, gardens, beaches, and the City of Castries. We even climbed the petite Piton (however I am ashamed to say this was not easy, and we only made it half way up). Mind you, it poured all day long, still it was an event in itself and well worth it. We hope to do it all the way up one day - perhaps on our next visit or try the Gross Piton.

We loved St. Lucia - it was a great island, and well worth a visit.
We also loved Crystals. It was a great property. We will for sure return, and hope to enjoy the company of the wonderful hosts and great staff. Thanks to all!

Crystals is a jewel! Visited: February 2006
Posted by sandra_n
Within five minutes of our arrival, we felt as though we had known Monica and Martin for years! They are a lovely, friendly couple who made our visit magical with special touches like complimentary champagne, beautiful flowers, chocolates and candles on Valentine's Day. They also hosted a wonderful cocktail party mid-week.

Our cottage (Papaya) was perfect: comfortable, beautifully furnished, and very clean, with breathtaking views. Crystals is a jewel - hidden away above the town of Soufriere with views of the Piton Mountains and the Caribbean Sea.

Monica is a very thoughtful and efficient hostess who arranged to have someone meet us at the airport upon arrival. She also organized our four-wheel drive rental.

We arrived in St. Lucia intending to fully explore the island; but thanks to our exquisite surroundings we stayed close to home all week enjoying the peace, tranquillity and friendly attentions of the staff at Crystals.

We can't say enough about Crystals -- it is a stunning vacation spot with the most gracious hosts one could wish for!

It was absolutley beautiful. Visited: November 2005

We stayed four nights at Crsytals.

I was a bit taken back at first by its isolation. We went up a small road that looked as if nothing would be at the end of it. Then, in between the bushes was a splatter of color and we knew then we had not made a bad turn.

Crystals was a beautiful small property with just four cottages. But this was hard to tell when we arrived if it was one or ten the way the property is built.

We just loved our stay. With no restaurant on property, we went out most nights and just cooked a light meal once great to have the kitchen.

We enjoyed a restaurant at the Hilton called "The Bang". They did a show and BBQ on Wednesday. It was good fun.

The Fond Doux Estate was great for lunch, but do go early as we went late and found ourselves tied up with a large tour group.

We loved St. Lucia and loved Crystals. We will return soon for sure.

Crystals was the perfect hideaway. Visited: July 2005

We spent five days at Crystals. We wanted a property that was away from it all, and we got it. In fact, it was like being in a tree house. It was very tropical. Our cottage, the Mango cottage, was perfect.

Monica and Martin, the owners, are great people. They made our stay a special one. They made us feel at home. We also loved the pet dog, Sheba.

Make sure to visit the volcano. It is great for a nice hot bath.

This was a unique small property. Visited: April 2005
Posted by meganmiles2
My new wife and I stayed two weeks at Crystals and loved it. I must say the first night was a bit strange as none of us had been to a tropical island before. We heard the sounds of the tree frogs and crickets from outside and the swaying in the wind of the coconut trees.

The cottage we had was picture perfect. We loved the style, and it was very comfortable. We felt quite at home.

Crystals was a small property - not a resort. There was no restaurant, so most of the time we went out to dine. A few times took advantage of the kitchen.

We did find the climate very, very hot. Our cottage did have air conditioning, but we did manage not to put it on as I hate air conditioning. But I must say I was tempted a few times.

The staff at Crystals could not be nicer. Arlette, the housekeeper, was full of information; Rass, the handyman, was on request and would bring fresh green coconuts. We loved them, but they can have you runnng to the toilet! We did not see Martin and Monica so often, as they both had a hectic week opening a restaurant. But we did have a bottle of wine together when we arrived. They are great people.

You must hire a car, as in the Soufriere area everything was spread out. We loved the Anse Chastanet beach as the snorkeling was great (and so was the BBQ lunch).

We went for a day trip to Martinique. It was a great trip. But, to be honest, there was a lot of running round and it was hectic. It was not what we wanted on our holiday.

Last but not least, Sheba (the pet dog) seemed to think that she belonged to us (we are animal people and I think we spoiled her).

All in all, Crystals was what we wanted - a true St. Lucian experience.

I share the good, the bad, and the ugly. Visited: June 2004

My wife and I only stayed two days at Crystals. We wanted to see the south west of the island. It was great, and we just loved our stay at Crystals. It was a shame it was so short.

The roads were bad, so it would be a good idea to hire a jeep. Our hosts made our stay just that extra bit special. We would like to thank you both.

We also loved the friendly pet dog Sheba. Crystals was like being at home, mind you I do not think anywhere could have had the view we had at Crystals - wow.

We liked the village of Soufriere, though it was not very good for shopping. You would have to go to Castries, but it had lots of charm.

We had a great stay all in all.

We should have spent more time here - it was better than we had ever Visited: June 2004
Posted by terryjackson249
We split our holiday in two wanting to visit all the island. However, our time at Crystals was the best. We enjoyed our stay and loved the property.

We do not like the run of the mill holiday, and being at Crystals was different. We enjoyed the simple pleasures of life - no cable vision here, not that we wanted it! We made our own entertainment.

The staff at Crystals was very good and made us feel at home, bringing us fresh fruit in the mornings (picked off the tree) and local creole bread from the bakery (known to all as the best bread on the island).

You must rent a car as it was a bit far to walk back from the beach (all up hill). It would also be a good idea to book early, as Crystals was small with not many rooms. We had to change our dates around, but it was worth it.

Also, the owners were very, very nice and made our stay special.

Our stay here was simply great. Visited: November 2003

My husband and I spent six days at Crystals, and it was simply great all around. Our cottage was perfect, views were great, and the food was good. We felt like we were in a garden of Eden due to the size of Crystals and with only a few guests. It was like we had our own private property for our stay, and a shame we could not have spent longer.

It was a good idea to take a jeep rather than a car due to the location of Crystals. The roads were terrible, not to mention when it rained. However, we enjoyed ourselves. It was like going on an aventure each day.

Soufriere was a small town not for shopping (great on the pocket that way). But you can find most of what you would like, we had a kitchen, so did most of our own cuisine.

You must visit the sulphur springs and have a mud bath, but wear an old swim suit as you will never get it clean again.
We loved St. Lucia and hope to return next year and if we can - back at Crystals.
